We knew the day would eventually arrive and it finally has. Google has announced that businesses can now create pages on Google+.

This opportunity is huge for people who want to connect with customers regarding their brands, products and/or local businesses. As Google+ continues to grow in popularity, your law firm has the potential to benefit greatly.

According to Google, if you create a business page on Google+, you will be able to “connect with the customers and fans who love you.” But that’s not all, if you ask Google. They have gone even further to say that “not only can [your clients] recommend you with a +1, or add you to a circle to listen long-term. They can actually spend time with your team, face-to-face-to-face.”

What do you need to do to get started? First, visit http://plus.google.com/pages/create. Then, develop your page and start sharing with clients and prospects. It’s that simple.

A Few More Tips for Your Google+ Business Page
Just like a Facebook business page or Twitter account, to truly be successful on Google+, you need to be actively involved. That means you should be sharing helpful and interesting information on a regular basis. You should also be engaging with your clients and fans. View what they are posting and make meaningful comments too.

If you are not convinced that you need yet another social network, you should know that Google is planning to include Google+ pages in search results. You need to make sure that your page is ready and can be found by your prospects!

We all know how important local search has become. It seems like only yesterday when your Google search results window wasn’t chock-a-block full of local listings lettered A to E.

Well just like back in school, you can think of these letters as grades. With the top 5 Google Local listings lettered A-E (I should note that where I grew up, F’s were called E’s). Just like in school, many factors influence what kind of grade you ended up with.

The Same Is True In Local Search

To me, one of the most important factors in earning good grades was showing up for class. Sure, we all had a friend who would constantly skip class, cram for a day and half, and ace the test.

But for most of us, showing up to class day in and day out, no matter how boring it was (Physics, I’m looking at you), gave us the best chance at possibly earning that A. In a way, proper Title Tags are the “showing up to class “of local SEO. Having properly optimized Title Tags on your web gives you the best chance at earning that A in local search.

What Does A Properly Optimized Title Tag Look Like?

Just like showing up for class every day, a properly optimized Title Tag is simpler than it seems. Showing up for class required time and energy, and a properly optimized Title Tag requires a key word & your Business Name.

This fine article from the Search Engine Journal goes into all sorts of details regarding the methodology behind this. While their methods are complicated, their conclusion is easy to digest.

Key Words

A whopping 79% of the sites studied that were considered by the author to be “High Ranking Places” contained a Key Word in their website’s Title Tag.

This Title Tag is what Google displays in the first five listings (remember, A-E). If your site didn’t “Make The Grade”, only their Business Name is displayed (F-G).

Business Name

The second part of a properly locally optimized Title Tag involves including the Business Name in your Title Tag.

Fortunately for you, Foster Web Marketing long ago realized the multi-faceted importance of including the Business Name in the Title Tag, and it is why we populate your Title Tag with it AUTOMATICALLY!

Below is an example of a properly optimized Title Tag that places our client Zimmer Duncan & Cole as the first (A!) ranking for the search term Sioux Falls car accident attorney.

Could It Really Be That Simple?

In the above instance, the answer is YES. A properly optimized title tag was enough to move Zimmer Duncan & Cole to top of the Google Local rankings.

But What About More Competitive Search Terms?

Just as some classes were harder than others, some search terms are harder to achieve rankings in.

Let’s Run A Search For Richmond DUI Lawyer

Our client Bob Battle currently ranks second locally for the term Richmond DUI Lawyer. A quick look at his homepage reveals a properly optimized Title Tag featuring both the Key Word and his Business Name.

So What Gives?

Well a quick at the top results in the above query will reveal some telling differences.

Tell Me What You Really Think

If you look to right of the query, you will see that both the A and B results have reviews on their Google Places page. Google Places aggregates reviews from both Google users, pulling from Google Maps & Google Pages, as well as independent websites, such as Avvo, Yelp, & other industry-related sources.

These reviews give credibility to the validity and accuracy of your Google Places page, and ultimately impact your Google Local.

Is the difference between ranking 1st and ranking 2nd in Google Local as simple as having one more review than your competitor?

The answer to that is, NO. There are unseen factors such as the number of local citations your business has been submitted to that Google weighs heavily in determining Local search rankings.

While just like showing up for class every day didn’t guarantee a good grade, neither do a properly optimized Title Tag and numerous user reviews. But between the two, they give you a good chance of ranking in the top five in Google Local Search.

We all know how important local search has become. It seems like only yesterday when your Google search results window wasn’t chock-a-block full of local listings lettered A to E.

Let’s take a brief look back at Google’s FIRST streaming video service, Google Videos:

Launched in January 2005

Google acquires YouTube October 2006

June 2007, Google Videos acts as a search frameset, displaying video results from outside hosts

By 2009 Google Videos no longer accepts uploads

In 2011, Google Videos shuts down forever

Basically, Google no longer had a use for Google Videos, having replaced its functionality with YouTube a couple of years ago.

Google attempts to explain their reasoning in a letter to its users:

Later this month, hosted video content on Google Video will no longer be available for playback. Google Video stopped taking uploads in May 2009 and now we’re removing the remaining hosted content. We’ve always maintained that the strength of Google Video is its ability to let people search videos from across the web, regardless of where those videos are hosted. And this move will enable us to focus on developing these technologies further to the benefit of searchers worldwide.

On April 29, 2011, videos that have been uploaded to Google Video will no longer be available for playback. We’ve added a Download button to the video status page, so you can download any video content you want to save. If you don’t want to download your content, you don’t need to do anything. (The Download feature will be disabled after May 13, 2011.)

What This Means To You?

If your firm has videos uploaded to Google Videos, it means you have until May 13th to download your content. But this only really applies to persons whose only copy of their videos is on Google Videos. This is not you.

What it DOES mean is that now is the time to upload your firm’s videos onto YouTube, if you have not done so already.

YouTube

YouTube is a great way to leverage the video resources at your disposal. Not only is YouTube the first place a person thinks of when you mention online video, it is also the second largest search engine in the world.

YouTube well on it’s way to reaching Verb status, as in, “I’ll YouTube you”. I promise you, I’ve heard it said before.

But I digress…

Unlocking The Power Of YouTube

While most of you probably have a few of your firm’s videos uploaded to YouTube, how many of you have your own YouTube channel?

The benefits of having your own YouTube channel are immense.

Aside from being a great way to group all of your videos together, your own channel allows you to fully harness the powers of YouTube and unlock the site’s hidden source of SEO juice.

What do I mean?

While most YouTube links are NoDoFollow {link to article about it}, links coming from your Channel page are DoFollow.

Remember, DoFollow links are the ones that give your site the link-juice that increases search engine rankings. The more authority the page linking to your site has, the more weight (or juice) Google assigns to it.

As stated earlier, a YouTube Channel is a GREAT way to organize your videos in one place. SO, links to your Channel are a great way to send users to a veritable YouTube library of your best videos.

The more links your YouTube Channel page receives, the greater authority Google assigns to it. The more authoritative your YouTube Channel is, the more juice YOUR WEBSITE gets from this DoFollow link.

By linking to your very own YouTube Channel page, you not only direct users to a comprehensive library of your videos, you increase the link juice to your website as well.

Goodbye Google Videos. HELLO YouTube Channels!

Google Videos is going away, permanently.

Google Videos, what the heck is that you might say? Do you mean YouTube?

Sort of.

Let’s Talk YouTube

While most YouTube links are NoDoFollow, links coming from your Channel page are DoFollow.

Google launched a new search engine feature yesterday called Google Instant that has sparked a lot of controversy and discussion in the Internet marketing world. Many are worried that Google’s new search engine feature will put the SEO’ers out of jobs and the website owners who have spent countless time and money to obtain top search engine rankings back to square one. But, this likely isn’t the case, and we’ll explain why in a minute. But first:

What is Google Instant and What does it do?

When you start to type a search query, Google used to populate recommendations based on the words/characters you are typing based on the more popular searches to save you time. Then you had the option to select one of their recommendations, and search for it, or to continue with your own search.

Now, with Google Instant, Google not only makes these recommendations, but they also populate real-time search results based on what you’re actually typing. It’s kind of an annoying way of Google saying “we’re smart, we know what everyone else is searching for, and you’re probably just like everyone else. So here ya go”.

(It should be noted that users have the ability to disable Google Instant and go back to the “good ol days” when Google didn’t believe in the “one size fits all” approach.)

Will Google Instant affect SEO and how websites are ranked?

Answer: Probably not, the same search engine algorithm is still in place and key SEO factors such as inbound links, content, on-page optimization, etc. still apply.

Will Google Instant influence how users actually search?

Answer: Possibly.

The recommendations that Google Instant makes are based on popularity and quantity of search queries. And if you have focused all of your time and effort on ranking for only one or a few vanity keywords, you might have a reason for worry.

For example, if a user is starting to type “Maryland personal injury”, and Google Instant recommends “Maryland personal injury attorney” or “Maryland personal injury law” but and you only rank for “Maryland personal injury lawyer” and not the other 2 variations, users might be more likely to choose those first two recommendations and your site may be less visible.

SEO is still very important and likely will be in the foreseeable future. But you’ve likely shot yourself in the foot if you’ve only focused on one keyword and not variations of phrases and long-tail keywords that are related to your practice and/or location.

SEO (and Internet marketing as a whole) is a process, not a task.

You don’t just get top rankings for one or a few keywords in 6 months and then set your website on cruise control. Instead, you obtain top rankings for a handful of keywords that you want to focus on, and then move onto other keywords and variations by building out your website with content and continuing your on-page optimization and link building efforts.

Increasing visibility on the web should be your number one goal, and the more phrases that your firm website(s) are found for, the more likely you are to captue your target audience.

If you’ve followed this way of thinking, then you have no reason to worry because you likely already rank for whatever variation that Google Instant is recommending to your potential clients when they are searching on Google.

But if you have not followed this way of thinking and are still focusing 100% of your time and resources on one or a few keywords, don’t panic. Instead:

Embrace Google Instant and Use It to your Advantage!

Google Instant will now tell you what it is recommending to your potential clients when they type in particular words or phrases.

So what do you do?

Perform the actual searches and see what Google Instant is showing others!

See what Google Instant is recommending and make sure you add these keywords and keyword phrases to your list of what your website should rank for. Just a word of advice though, you may want to clear out your browser history as it is possible that some of Google Instant’s recommendations may be based on websites that they see you have recently visited.

So Is Google Instant Good or Bad For SEO?

Google Instant shouldn’t be looked at as a threat to search engine optimization, but instead as a wake up call.

If you’re an attorney or law firms who is overly-concerned with ranking for certain vanity keywords, wake up! It’s not just about ranking for one keyword, it’s about increasing your visibility and ranking for as many keywords and variations as possible!

If you’re an attorney or law firm who isn’t thinking outside of the box about additional keywords and phrases that you want your website to rank for, wake up! Google Instant can actually help you find these keywords and phrases!

If you’re an attorney or law firm who isn’t adding content to your website on a regular basis to capture additional long-tail keywords… well, you might be in hibernation and so sound asleep that this won’t even affect you, but just in case… WAKE UP!

Okay, so you already know how important it is to have an effective search engine marketing strategy in place in order to obtain and keep page one search engine rankings. You’re an attorney, which likely means that you don’t really have the time to go out and build links yourself because you’re spending most of your time in the court room and with clients.

So who do you hire to do so?

Here are a few options and our opinions on each:

1) Have a Paralegal or Junior Attorney in your office do it

You’re already paying them so why not give them another task?

This is the most popular decision when it comes to finding someone to perform routine link building tasks like directory submissions and article distribution, but what about training and research time? It takes a good amount of time and effort to get paralegals and assistants with no experience to know enough about the art of SEO and SEM, and even then are they qualified as experts who can do an effective enough job to increase your search engine rankings?

We’ve also noticed that this route leads to a high turnover rate, as most of the time assistants and paralegals either move on from their link building duties because they’d rather be more involved in the legal aspects of the firm (which is what they went to school for) or because the firm finally realizes that they aren’t Internet Marketing professionals after a few months.

2) Can your Traditional Marketing consultant(s) do this?

Most firms and small law offices have traditional marketing consultants that they go to for their “traditional” marketing needs, whether it be in-house or not. These people surely know enough about SEO and SEM to either do most of it themselves, right?

Well, that depends. From our experience, the marketing consultants are great for certain aspects of web marketing, like serving as contact people for online press releases, helping out with necessary social media tasks, and basically serving as the go-to person for the attorney(s) since they don’t really have the time, but from our experience the traditional marketers don’t know enough about SEO and SEM to create and maintain an effective link building campaign. There are some exceptions, of course, but from our experience the traditional marketers make better project managers who can measure the level of effectiveness of an SEO/SEM campaign than actual “do’ers”.

3) Hire A Freelance SEO/SEM consultant

This is another very popular decision when it comes to finding someone to build links to your website. You can find hundreds of people on Craigslist and freelance websites like Elance, but be very careful of this. Be sure to ask for other websites that they have performed SEO/SEM duties on, and see what types of rankings and back links these sites have.

Also try to make sure that they are actually competitive keywords that the freelancers are using, and aren’t showing you keywords that pretty much anybody could obtain with a few pages of content.

Hiring a freelancer is a good option if they can prove that they know what they’re doing and are effective, but turnaround usually plays a part (the freelancer takes on too many projects or takes a full-time job and suddenly doesn’t have time to dedicate to your project) as does measuring success.

It usually takes some time to obtain number on rankings on search engines because of indexing (usually up to six months), and it’s not easy for you to pay someone every month without seeing some type of return on investment. Be sure to monitor your Google analytics for increases in traffic and keyword visits, and also ask for a detailed breakdown of what links were obtained by the freelancer. If you really want to be sure, check the PageRanks of the sites that the freelancer is obtaining links from and also make sure that they are legal-related or relevant to your location.

4) Hiring an Offshore Web Marketing Company

You likely get contacted by companies from India and other countries overseas that promise you page one rankings for a low monthly fee all the time. This is because the labor in these countries is very cheap and, just like with any other business, outsourcing your project to an overseas vendor can be tempting, especially if they can show results for past clients and are hundreds or thousands cheaper than a company here in the States.

There are a few problems with this. One is the language barrier, not only between you and the company but also the grammar errors that come up while the offshore company provides their link building services on article and press release sites, blogs, forums, etc. You may say to yourself at first “well, I’ll just proofread everything” but that turns into more time than completing the actual work.

Another issue is that most offshore companies use black hat techniques, like obtaining crappy back links that have nothing to do with law or your location. You may not care about this at first when you’re on page one of Google, but if the search engines find out about these sites linking back to yours it’s very likely that your site will be penalized and you’ll be stuck after paying for services that ended up hurting you more than they helped.

Have you ever tried to convince Google to re-index a website with hundreds or thousands of bad inbound links? We have after we tried to help out a few clients who made bad choices when hiring link building “companies”, and it’s near impossible. Long story short: you get what you pay for.

5) Hiring a Web Marketing Company

While it’s true that this is probably the most expensive option, it is usually also the most effective. Hiring trained and proven professionals to handle your SEM and link building campaigns provides a return on investment that most of the previous options do not.

You understand how important your search engine rankings are, and building quality and relevant links is absolutely key to obtaining and keeping these rankings. Are you really thinking about pinching pennies when you know this?

Be sure to check out some of the web marketing’s companies and their search engine rankings before hiring them. Also be sure to follow similar rules that pertain to “hiring a freelancer”, like asking for a detailed work completed report and monitoring the quality of the back links that the company obtains.

Having a web marketing company on your side also pays off when you need web marketing advice, like whether or not certain paid advertising opportunities that are available online are worth the investment, what kind of strategies they can implement to increase traffic conversion, networking and referral opportunities, and more.

There is power in numbers and most web marketing companies already have the necessary resources in place to make your link building and search engine marketing campaign a success, and help you generate more leads, cases, and most of all, money.

Those of us who have been in the SEO/web marketing industry have seen these types of sentences in Craigslist “Job posts” plenty of times:

“We need you to help get us to page one of Google, but our budget is limited.”

“We are willing to become partners with you if you can get us to page one of Google in two months.”

“We are looking for an SEO intern who can get us to page one of Google and get some real-life experience in the process.”

“I’m looking for someone to help us get more links back to our website. We will pay you per link if you obtain 100 or more PR4 links within 30 days.”

Here’s my favorite:

If you can find someone willing to work for $9/hour who has some sort of experience and is worth anything, more power to you. But, a lot of times, website owners and web design/web marketing companies looking for SEO help don’t have realistic expectations of what an SEO consultant is worth or what QUALITY SEO work actually costs.

Here is what the average SEO-related salaries currently are according to Indeed.com:

SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization) published a report last January based on a survey that asked a number of in-house SEM professionals what they make per year. Here are the results:

A few things are true when it comes to hiring someone to perform SEO on your or your clients’ site(s);

Yes, the economy is currently struggling. People are looking for work and you could probably find someone for cheap.

Yes, you could hire someone to do freelance work at a lower hourly rate.

Yes, you could always outsource your project to someone overseas for a lot cheaper.

However, while all of these statements are true, is SEO REALLY something that you want to pinch pennies over? Because most of the time, you get what you pay for.

Do you really think that paying someone $9/hour is going to keep them motivated and dedicated to making your project a success?

I always like to think of this statement when looking at SEO as a whole: “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it.”

If it was as easy as paying someone $200 bucks a month to get your website to number one for “personal injury attorney” or “Los Angeles accident lawyer”, don’t you think someone would have thought of that by now??

Legal SEO is a very competitive market. Lawyers are never scared to spend money on marketing, especially after they have realized the ROI that is involved. If you think that you’re the only lawyer in your city that has thought about having someone help with your online marketing, think again. The reality is that you’re probably already a few years behind your competition, and trying to find some college kid or inexperienced SEO’er on Craigslist who doesn’t have a job for a reason is not going to make up for that.

Finding someone to perform SEO on your website is very similar to finding a lawyer. If you can’t afford it, can you go with a public defender or represent yourself?

Sure!

But what are the realistic chances that you’re going to succeed?

Spend the money and hire a professional!

Many have said that submitting your website or blog to directories is no longer an effective way to build links and improve your website’s search engine rankings, but this isn’t entirely the case. Yes, not only are (some) directories still good for SEO and link juice, but listing your website and local business information on directory sites can also increase your Google Local/Google maps rankings as well as Google Local pulls from many trusted directory sites when verifying that your information is correct.

So now you need to know what directories to submit to and what rules to follow. Here are 5 tips that you should follow when listing your site or blog on a directory.

1. Is it a niche/legal directory?

You don’t want to submit your website to a directory that is too general or has nothing to do with law because this can actually negatively affect your rankings. The quality of you inbound links is very important, and the last thing that you want is a bunch of links coming in from non-legal-related sites.

One directory that we can show as an example (there are plenty out there but this is just one that we prefer for a number of reasons which we’ll explain below) is Local-Attorneys.com. This is a directory site that specializes in ONLY lawyer listings.

You can also look for niche directories that are location-based, meaning they only list businesses in your city or state. These can be good for improving your location-based search engine rankings and some of them are also good for traffic as a lot of quality directories that are location-specific get a pretty good amount of visits.

2. How does the directory rank?

How the directory is structured is also very important to look at. You want to make sure that any directories that you submit to have SEO-friendly URL’s for your listing (meaning that some of your keywords are actually included in the URL of your listing), some sort of content on the directory site and not just a bunch of links, and a decent Google Pagerank.

Again, we like to use local-attorneys.com as an example because they have all of these things and also rank on page 1 for terms like “local attorneys”, “find local attorneys”, etc. Try to see if the directory you’re listing on ranks for any of your local searches (also, conduct these searches to see what directories DO come up and submit your website or blog to those as well).

This is important for rankings because a) the higher the quality and rank of the directory, the more “link juice” that you’ll receive by being listed, and b) a quality directory is a lot more likely to get more visits which should direct some traffic to your website.

Remember, a directory can help you in two ways: it can help improve your inbound “link juice” which will dramatically improve your Google and other search engine rankings, and some directories can also get your website more traffic.

3. It’s a paid directory, is it worth it?

Clients e-mail us all of the time asking if they should be listed on a paid directory and if it’s worth the submission fees.

Yes, there are plenty of free directories out there that are effective, but a quality paid directory can help you earn a return on investment as long as you know what you’re looking for.

(And, by the way, if you’re using any types of software or web-based programs to submit your website or blog to multiple free directories at once, you’re shooting yourself in the foot).

We’ve seen listing fees range anywhere from $50 all the way to $1000. So, our tip: find some quality directories with lower listing fees ($50-100 is usually pretty reasonable) and submit to a few of them to start off with.

You can monitor Google Analytics to see if any of these paid directories have referred traffic to your website, but just remember that there is return on investment that you won’t be able to see and that is the link juice that this directory is providing your website and helping it rank better on the search engines.

4. Be sure to use effective effective submission methods

What do we mean by “effective submission methods”?

Don’t use the same description for every directory. Be sure to change the wording and included keywords around and, if possible, try to link to interior pages of your website for appropriate keywords/practice areas.

In other words, if you’re submitting your site or blog to directories trying to build your “link juice” up for an auto accident keyword, don’t always link back to the home page itself. Your website should have a page dedicated to each of your areas of practice, and the more inbound links that you have going to these types of interior pages, the better.

Also, to save time, instead of typing or copying and pasting all of the generic information like address, phone number, e-mail, etc., download and use a Firefox plug-in called Informenter. This will save you a LOT of time, trust me.

5. Always try to be as detailed as possible

Listing a website or blog on multiple directories in one sitting can become very tiring and repetitive, but you’d be surprised how much adding little details like a company logo or hours of operation can actually make a difference. Try to take the time to fill out AS MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AS POSSIBLE. Add as much content to every directory submission as you can and make sure that you’re maximizing the listing on that directory. Sure, it may take a few extra minutes, but it’s better to do it then and to do it right than to have to go back and do it again.

Broken links are a lot more of a common occurrence than you think, and chances are that you’ve never even considered it. How many times have you or anyone that has written for your site posted a link to a news story or blog post? Chances are that the page on your website is still active, but a lot of times the news stories or blog posts that you’re linking to on that page are taken off of that website’s server for space issues and other reasons.

At the same time, are you 100% sure that you’ve included “http://” or “www.” in ALL of your inbound links?

When search engine spiders go to crawl your site and notice these broken links, they report them back to the search engines as “crawl errors” which can negatively affect your site’s search engine rankings. Usually, you can see what “crawl errors” occur in Google Webmaster tools, but this doesn’t always report all broken links and, just because the spider didn’t pick up on them the last time around, it doesn’t mean that they won’t eventually.

That being said, checking your site every once in a while for broken links is a very good idea, and if it’s something you think you have the time to do, here is a do-it-yourself guide on how to check for bad or broken links.

Checking broken links on a MAC

The best program available for a Mac that scans your entire website site for broken outbound links is Integrity by Peacock Media.

Integrity is also preferred over the leading back link checker for PC users because not only does it report what links are bad, but it also tells the user where the links are located. Unfortunately Integrity is not available for PC users, but scroll down to find out more about the preferred broken link checker for PC users. (I’d also like to take the time to clarify that we have no alliance or connection with the manufacturers or distributors of either of these programs and that this blog post is based solely on opinion and experience).

To check for bad backlinks on your Mac using Integrity, download, install, and open the program and paste the URL that you’d like to check for broken links on

Include any of your preferred settings if necessary and then hit Go.

The results will then include ALL links, and you can focus on the broken links only by clicking on “Bad Links Only”

After clicking the bad links button, only bad links (which are highlighted in red) are displayed and you can now get more information on how to find and correct them.

The report includes the

error that occurred

the URL of the bad link

the anchor text of the link as it was found on the page(s) and

what page(s) the broken link was found on. If the broken link was found on more than one page, it will tell you how many pages the broken link was found on and, if you double click the entry, it will give a list of the pages where the broken link was found.

You can then go into the content management system of your website and fix (or remove) the broken links one-by-one. Yes, this can be time consuming, but it is necessary.

Checking for Broken Links on a PC

Xenu’s Link Sleuth is the best broken link checker available for PC users.

Download and install the program and then open it.

Click on File and select Check Url

Paste the Url, select any additional options you’d like to include, and click Ok

If you’d only like to view the broken links (as opposed to all links), click on View and then Show Broken Links Only

Link Sleuth then generates a report which includes the following information about the broken links on your site:

URL of bad link

Error status

The type of link

The Title or anchor text of the broken link

Date

“Level”

Link Sleuth doesn’t include what page(s) the broken link occurs on, but if you know the anchor text of the broken link, you can go to Google and search the entire site for that anchor text phrase to try to find the broken link. To do this:

Go to Google.com

type site:http://www.yourdomain.com “anchor text of broken link” (be sure to include the quotations)

The pages on your site that include that exact phrase will be displayed as the search engine result which should help you pinpoint the location(s) of the broken link.

That is how to check for broken links on your site. It’s probable that you’ve never even thought about the news story that you linked to 2 years ago which has since been taken down, so be sure to check for these broken links every few months. Correcting these broken links is obviously a lot easier if you have access to a content management system where you can easily make the changes to yourself, and if you don’t have access to a CMS you probably want to contact your design company to help you make the corrections.

I would like to take the time to urge everyone to regularly check out the Google Webmaster blog where Matt Cutts and others at Google share SEO and webmaster tips that range from beginner to advanced. The blog is well organized and very informative.

Matt just posted his video responses to last month’s Q&A. They can be found at the Google Webmaster Help Youtube Channel and have some great answers to some very common questions in the SEO world. The Q&A videos were posted last week and are the videos with the white backgrounds, right now they’re towards the end of page one.

In fact, Matt even answered George Murphy’s (aka Murph) question about the best way for webmasters and website owners to find out what other websites/blogs are linking to them. Check it out:
